Program to improve the quality of life of the backward communities

Backward communities are a small part of the total population of Bangladesh. According to the survey of the Department of Social Services, the backward population in Bangladesh is about 14,90,000 people. The current government has undertaken various activities to improve the quality of life of the backward people and to include these people in the mainstream of society. took From the financial year 2012-13 to 2018-19, the two programs for improving the quality of life of the backward and backward communities were together. In the financial year 2019-20, this program is being separated and is being run as a separate program called "Life Quality Improvement Program for Backward Communities". From the financial year 2021-22, the special allowance and education stipend of this program is being sent to the mobile of the beneficiary through GTP system with cash assistance.


Backward Communities:


Backward communities or classes who are socially and educationally backward. They are known as extremely neglected, isolated, neglected people. Fishermen, Sanyasis, Rishis, Beharas, Barbers, Washermen, Hazams, Nikaris, Patnis, Kawras, Telis, Patikars, Sweepers, Scavengers or Dhangars, Domars, Doms, Rauts, and lower class occupations.


Activities:


 


        The following activities will be conducted to improve the quality of life of the backward communities:


 


Allowance for disabled and indigent persons of the age group of 50 years and above;

Education stipend of Rs 700 at primary level, Rs 800 at secondary level, Rs 1000 at higher secondary level and Rs 1200 at higher level to target students studying in educational institutions:

Providing training to persons from backward communities above 18 years of age.

 


Brief Background of the Program:


This program started as a pilot program from 2012-2013 financial year involving 7 districts of the country. In the financial year 2013-2014, this program was expanded to 21 districts, including 14 new districts, and in 2015-16, the program was expanded to 43 districts, including the previous 21 districts, and the program is being implemented in 64 districts.
