Recent Activities


Institutional Activities:


The Department of Social Services is conducting various 212 institutional activities aimed at development, protection and development of children. 6 abandoned, addressless, unclaimed and rescued from traffickers and children aged 0-7 years and 85 families of children and 3 distressed children training and rehabilitation centers for the maintenance of poor, destitute, destitute and distressed children, general education of foster children, Health, safety, training, entertainment are working to build a good citizen. Through 6 centers, orphans and disabled are being given up-to-date technical training to rehabilitate them in the society through employment. 5 Pre-Vocational Training Centers provide training to children of child families to enhance their technical skills. 4 Government Speech and Hearing Impaired Schools and 64 Districts are working with the aim of making disabled children fit to be established in the society through sustenance, education, training, treatment, entertainment and rehabilitation through integrated visually impaired education program. There is a training and rehabilitation center at Tongi aimed at making the visually impaired, hearing impaired and physically challenged youth self-reliant through vocational training. There is an institution for mentally challenged children in Raufabad of Chittagong district with the aim of bringing them back to a healthy and normal life by providing maintenance and medical services. There are 3 child development centers including one for girls for the development of children in conflict with the law. Similarly, there are 6 Safe Housing Centers for Women and Child Adolescent Custody to keep them safe outside the prisons. Besides, there are 6 'Training and Rehabilitation Centers for Socially Handicapped Girls' for training and rehabilitation of girls involved in immoral and anti-social occupations. Besides, there are Sheikh Russell Child Training and Rehabilitation Centers in 13 districts including a model Sheikh Russell Distressed Child Training and Rehabilitation Center at Tungipara. The National Center for Special Education offers Bachelor of Special Education (BSED) degrees as well as Masters of Special Education (MSED) degrees. For the welfare of the orphans and orphans of the country, government grants of 2,000 rupees per head per month are given in the orphanages established under private management. With the help of Department of Social Services and UNICEF, 'Child Help Line-1098' has been providing services to ensure child protection.


 


People with disabilities are also moving towards digital services:


Bangabandhu dreamed of a golden Bengal where all citizens would have equal rights. Bangabandhu laid the foundation of a modern science-minded technology-based Bangladesh, which shows the way for Bangladesh to participate in the digital revolution. According to the World Health Organization, about 15% of the world's total population is disabled. According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, about 9 percent of Bangladesh's citizens suffer from some form of disability, a large proportion of whom are students. The multimedia talking book initiative is playing an important role in ensuring the accessibility of these disabled students in education. All these textbooks are developed into full text and full audio multimedia talking books, which are distributed to students free of cost. In addition to education, the way to get services for people with disabilities has also been made easier with the help of stakeholders. In recognition of its digital work, the Department of Social Services was awarded as the best government department on the 3rd National Digital Bangladesh Day 2019.


 


  Social Security Activities:


The first age-allowance breakthrough in the country was taken in the fiscal year 1997-98 through the 'Old Age Allowance' programme. Allowances of 57.01 lakh elderly beneficiaries of the country are reaching their doorsteps in no time without suffering under the G2P system. The plight of widows and abused women will be eased. Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina introduced widow and abused women's allowance in 1998. Besides, the government takes allowance and education stipend programs for the disabled. It works to include all the backward sections of the society in the mainstream of development. Accordingly, programs aimed at converting the Hijra, Vedic and backward communities into skilled manpower through allowances, stipends and training are undertaken. Financial assistance to the patients suffering from cancer, kidney, liver cirrhosis, stroke, congenital heart disease and thalassemia and their families to bear the medical expenses and the successful implementation of the program aimed at bringing the patient back to a healthy and normal life is having a positive impact on social indicators including healthy society. Financial assistance to 50,000 people in 2021-22 fiscal year to improve the quality of life of tea plantation workers and build sustainable housing. Besides, 75 housing units have been provided in the financial year 2020-21 through Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council. The government launched a program called 'Rehabilitation and alternative employment of people engaged in begging' in order to discourage people from degrading occupations like begging. For this, out of the existing 6 shelters, 2 separate sheds have been constructed. The construction of the remaining 4 is progressing rapidly.


 


Activities Related Matters:


Through the 'Rogi Kalyan Samiti' of Hospital Social Services Office, medicines, blood, food, clothes, spectacles, wheelchairs etc. are provided to poor, helpless and distressed patients.
